Haven’t we all, at one point or another, struggled with body image issues? This is usually because we’ve believe the lies society and the media tells us. This pulls us down and affects our self-esteem. Carol Rossetti is doing something about this.
Carol Rossetti is a graphic illustrator and artist with over 80 images all based on body image and feminist issues.
Each illustration features an individual woman and a message turning each story into one of empowerment. Her works are amazing and insightful as she doesn’t just tackle basic issues like weight but goes deeper; expanding the scope to other body image issues we usually don’t talk about.
Her ultimate goal with her work, Rossetti says, “is to respect people, regardless of their personal choices, body types, and identities. We all deserve respect and equality.”
Regarding her own body image struggles, Rossetti says, “I’m no different. There were times in my life that it really bothered me and got me down. But, I learned to be a lot kinder to myself in the past years and I feel happier now.”
“We need to defend ourselves from what the media is constantly presenting as a beauty standard and I think that a good way to do that is to look for more,” says Rossetti.
“Look around; there are so many different bodies! Search on the Internet for beautiful photography featuring a wider diversity of body types. Follow blogs and pages that focus on another beauty approach. Diversity must be a part of our routines.”
Why would you want to listen to media tells you about the “perfect body type”? Like Viktoria Modesta says- “It’s by being different we move ahead”. Be glad that something about you differentiates you from other humans”. That’s what makes you unique and therefore special.
